ArmInfo. The judicial system of Armenia must be cleansed, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Jhangiryan said at a press conference. In this regard, he said that a member of the Supreme Judicial Council David Khachaturyan, together with his partners, had prepared a draft on "cleaning up" the judicial system (draft law on vetting - ed.note), which will soon be sent to the National Assembly and the government.
According to Jhangiryan, the judicial system of Armenia must cleanse itself of people who ignore justice, who have hid many innocent people behind bars for many years. In this vein, he stressed that such people are unsuitable for the work of the judicial system. <Mass purges will be implemented after the adoption of the bill. But there is no doubt that this should happen, "added the head of the Council. Noting that, most likely, a corresponding commission will be created, Jhangiryan said that such examples already exist in Ukraine, Montenegro and other countries.
The head of the Supreme Judicial Council stressed that today the judicial system of Armenia faces the task of restoring public confidence. Otherwise, all further actions and reforms carried out in the judicial sector will not receive an objective assessment and a positive result. According to Jhangiryan, today the Supreme Judicial Council is trying to introduce criteria and mechanisms to restore people's confidence in the justice system. In this context, he spoke about the intention to introduce a time limit for the consideration of individual cases. In addition, it is planned to introduce strict criteria for the selection of specialists in the judicial system, which should, in principle, exclude the possibility of any agreements. To recall, in January of this year, the Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan said on his Facebook page that the judges of the Anti-Corruption and Appeal Anti-Corruption Courts will undergo a vetting procedure. As a result, he said, the speed of investigation of cases will increase and the effectiveness of specialized investigation of corruption cases will increase.
