ArmInfo. We can state that as of today, the collective West offers assistance to Armenia precisely through France, due to the fact that Armenia has always had the closest relations with France. Political scientist Robert Ghevondyan expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.
“Armenia is a member of the Francophonie, and France is the country that understands Armenia the best. Another question is how long the West's hand will remain in the direction of Armenia. To answer this question, it is necessary to understand how long the interests of the West will coincide with the interests of Armenia. And of course, we will be able to whether we ourselves use this coincidence in the interests of Armenia. In this light, how far the West will go depends on both the work we have done and the overall geopolitical background. Today this background is favorable for us, we can only take advantage of this, "he said.
According to Ghevondyan's assessments, if Armenia is able to formulate an appropriate agenda in response to the West's proposals and begin its implementation, the West will not be late with the implementation of its proposals. According to him, it is already obvious today that the West is trying by its own means to fill in the gaps created by the inaction of the security system in which Armenia is located.
According to the political scientist, in this whole situation, the fact that Armenia actually lacks its own security strategy is important. In this light, Ghevondyan sees the need to develop and adopt a new strategy as soon as possible. After that, and on the basis of which it will become possible to consider more substantively the capabilities of the West in the field of security. And also to consider the possibility of their comparison, interconnection and harmonization with the relations of Armenia with Russia.
Commenting on the prospects for the resumption of the work of the OSCE Minsk Group on the settlement of the conflict around Artsakh, the political scientist stressed that Baku will oppose this by all available means. In his opinion, this is directly evidenced by Ilham Aliyev's statements not only about the status of Artsakh, but also about the very nature of the Artsakh problem itself.
"In this light, it is clear that Aliyev will delay the work of the Minsk Group as much as possible. And he has these capabilities, including the capabilities of Russia, although the latter in words is a supporter of the resuscitation of the MG. Here it is important to take into account Moscow's expectations of Baku regarding its involvement in Russian projects of Eurasian integration. "And this is where Armenia's readiness and ability to neutralize the obstacles set by Azerbaijan on this path come to the fore again."
