ArmInfo. The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer responded to a letter from Armenian President Armen Sarkissian about the need for the immediate return of all Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held by Azerbaijan.
As reported by the press service of the RA leader, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross assured that the issues raised by the President of Armenia are under the close attention of his organization. Noting that the ICRC has been operating in the region since 1992, Maurer, in particular, said that from the first days of hostilities in September 2020, the organization provided humanitarian assistance, and expressed its readiness to continue to do so within the framework of the humanitarian mandate given to the ICRC by the international community.
It is worth noting that more than two hundred Armenian prisoners of war and civilians are being held illegally in Azerbaijani captivity only. According to point 8 of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia of November 9, 2020, all prisoners of war and prisoners of war were to be released immediately and without preconditions.
