ArmInfo. The statement of the ex-President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan is in fact a statement of the role of Russia in the Karabakh settlement not only as a mediator, but also as a party to it. A party that has and pursues its own interests in all this. Such opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by political strategist Vigen Hakobyan.
Earlier, Ter-Petrosyan in his article once again stressed that " the key to resolving the Karabakh issue is in the hands of Russia." According to the ex-president, one of the main reasons for the Armenian tragedy in the issue of Artsakh is the lack of awareness of this reality on the part of the two former and current authorities. This is confirmed by the hopes of the current government for the resolution of the Artsakh problem by the OSCE Minsk Group. According to Ter-Petrosyan, this trend is fraught with new disappointments for Armenia, if not new heavy losses.
"I think that against this background, the recent meeting and discussion of this issue by the five Presidents of Armenia and Artsakh was of particular importance. It is no secret that the first president has always stood out for his super-pragmatism and lack of desire for populism in many cases and situations. I think that with the last article, he is trying to keep the domestic political players in Armenia from playing foreign policy games with certain external forces that are not coordinated with Moscow," he stressed.
In this light, the political strategist noted that there is a point of view in the political field of Armenia, according to which the interests of Russia and the interests of the West in the issue of Artsakh do not coincide. According to Hakobyan, both the authorities and the opposition are considering the possibility of overplaying the current situation around Artsakh, linking this possibility with the global confrontation between the West and Russia.
According to Hakobyan, it is also clear that as a result of the last Artsakh war, the West, represented by the United States and France, was outside the framework of the Minsk process. And today he is trying to return to the negotiating table for a settlement, calling into question the results of the war. Meanwhile, the Armenian authorities, in particular the Foreign Ministry, are trying to place themselves in the confrontation between Russia and the West, building on this their own counter-game.
