ArmInfo. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov did not comment on the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about a new corridor in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
"Specifically, I will leave this topic without comment," Peskov replied to a request from journalists to comment on the words of the Azerbaijani leader about the establishment of a corridor connecting Nakhichevan (Nakhijevan) with the western part of Azerbaijan, and which was "positively assessed" by the presidents of Russia and Turkey.
"Let me remind you, if you pay attention, in my opinion, a week ago or two weeks ago, in one of the messages about a telephone conversation with President Aliyev, we said that the heads of states, along with other problems, discussed the development and unblocking of transport communications in the region," - added a Kremlin spokesman, quoted by IZ.ru.
Peskov stressed that the topics of transport communications are on the agenda and are discussed by the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan.
To note, today Aliyev, in his address to the nation, said that the Lachin (Berdzor) corridor was transferred under the control of Russian peacekeepers, its width of 5 km was agreed. In addition, the Azerbaijani leader said that Baku is proposing to establish a new corridor connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, while transferring the city of Lachin to Azerbaijan. He also recalled that in the ninth paragraph of the trilateral statement of November 9, which was included on his initiative, it is indicated that all economic and transport links are being restored in the region.
Aliyev said that among the issues specified in the ninth paragraph, the priority for the country is the issue of connecting Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and at the same time establishing a new transport corridor between Azerbaijan and Turkey. "We are taking Nakhchivan out of the encirclement, at the same time opening a new transport artery. Azerbaijan is connecting with its integral part - Nakhchivan. Azerbaijan is connecting with Turkey. Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and, Armenia, if it wants, can also connect to this corridor. Thus, a new five-sided cooperation platform can be established in the region. I have already brought this idea to the presidents of Russia and Turkey. Both Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin reacted positively to this, "the President of Azerbaijan said.
