ArmInfo. The Council of the National Assembly intends to appeal to the Constitutional Court to deprive head of the Prosperous Armenia party, prominent businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, of his parliamentary powers.
As reported by the press service of the parliament, the basis for the appeal is Article 95 of the Constitution of Armenia and the decision of the Corruption Prevention Committee dated October 26, 2020 "On violation of the requirements of incompatibility of a NA member."
According to Article 95 of the Constitution, a MP has no right to hold a position not determined by his status in state bodies or in other local self-government bodies, any position in commercial organizations, or engage in entrepreneurial activity.
To note, the meeting of the Parliamentary Council on this issue was planned for November 16, however, it was postponed. Tsarukyan was charged with large-scale tax evasion, as well as bribery of voters and appropriation of large land plots. In June this year, the parliament deprived Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity.
