ArmInfo.UN structures are stepping up their activities in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Thus, the official representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dujarrick said that UN specialists are ready to work together with Russia to assess the volume of humanitarian assistance needed in Nagorno- Karabakh.
According to him, in response to a request from the Russian Federation indicating the role and modalities of the Russian Interdepartmental Center for Humanitarian Aid, the Secretary General confirmed that the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and other UN offices are ready to cooperate and discuss the possibilities of joint action on the ground with the aim of conducting an initial independent assessments in Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas to fully understand the humanitarian needs in the region as soon as possible.
In turn, a representative of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations said that the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS), together with other units, is working on an emergency deployment in Nagorno- Karabakh, a mission to assess the needs of the parties is likely to start working in early December. "The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS), in coordination with other UN units and the team on the ground, is working on an emergency deployment in the context of the UN assistance requested by the parties. It is likely (deployment of the UNMAS mission - ed.) Earlier, the Russian side appealed to the UN structures with an appeal to intensify their activities in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
