ArmInfo. US Congressman Frank Pallone and a group of 30 legislators of the US House of Representatives initiated a resolution calling for international recognition of the Artsakh Republic as a basis for lasting peace in the Caucasus region. This is stated in the messages received by ArmInfo from the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and the Armenian Assembly of America (AAA).
According to the report, the resolution, supported by the Armenian organizations of America, also condemns the continuing attacks of Azerbaijan and Turkey on Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh, calls for the curtailment of military assistance to Azerbaijan, as well as for the direct participation of Nagorno- Karabakh in the peace negotiations mediated by the OSCE. In the document, the congressmen also urge to ease restrictions on travel and communications between the United States and the Republic of Artsakh. The resolution is scheduled to be submitted for consideration on October 23, which coincides with the meetings of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Pallone noted that it is incredibly important for the House of Representatives to send a strong signal of support to Artsakh and the aspirations of its people for independence, especially on the eve of important meetings between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan and Secretary of State Pompeo. "The international community has submitted to the pressure of Azerbaijan and Turkey for too long, ignoring their constant pompous rhetoric, their blatant military build-up over the years. As this bloody conflict continues, we believe it is time to finally recognize Artsakh's legitimate demands for independence on a global scale. arena and officially recognize the right of his people to self-determination, "the American Congressman stressed.
At the same time, Pallone stated that this resolution reflects the current situation in the South Caucasus and is an important step in demonstrating support by the Congress of the people of Artsakh in this difficult time. In his conviction, the United States must remain committed to an immediate end to the ongoing hostilities in Artsakh. "In the process, we must also take bold steps to hold Azerbaijan and Turkey accountable for their aggression and to work out a permanent solution that will resolve Artsakh's status and security issues. The submission of this resolution will help us on this path," Pallone concluded. In this regard, ANCA Executive Director Aram Hambaryan welcomed the initiation of this resolution, noting that it rightfully confirms what all Washington already knows - that the only peaceful and the long-term solution to this conflict will be the international recognition of the Artsakh Republic. In his words, the time has come for the recognition of Artsakh by the United States.
In turn, Assembly Director for Relations with Congress Mariam Khaloyan, welcoming this bipartisan initiative by Pallone, noted that together with American lawmakers, they will continue to seek full compliance with Amendment 907, as well as insist on the use of sanctions against Turkey for its actions, including through recruitment and transportation of jihadist mercenaries to Azerbaijan.
