ArmInfo. Government spokesman Ali Rabiei said Iran supports any initiative that will stop the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, establish a ceasefire and prevent the killing of people.
"Whatever decision is made on Nagorno-Karabakh, all parties to the conflict must participate," he said, IRNA reports. "The existence of terrorism and the presence of terrorists in the region by any country will be to the detriment of that country," he said.
"We welcome the cessation of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh region as a step towards peace and urge our neighbors to enter into a serious dialogue based on respect for international law and territorial integrity, and refrain from any action contrary to the ceasefire," he explained.
Expressing the deep concern and regret of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the killing of civilians, Rabiei stressed "the need not to repeat these incidents while the region and the peoples of our countries need peace and tranquility more than ever."
