ArmInfo. The transit of military cargo through the territory of Georgia to Armenia and Azerbaijan is prohibited, the airspace is open only for aircraft flying for humanitarian and commercial purposes. According to TASS, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Lasha Darsalia announced this on October 13.
"We would like to reiterate that military transit through the territory of Georgia is not carried out. According to the documentation that Georgia has, the flights that are carried out in the airspace of Georgia are only of a humanitarian and civil nature and fully comply with ICAO standards (International Civil Aviation Organization, TASS note) ", Darsalia stated, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
The diplomat also added that Georgia is still fulfilling its international obligations related to the passage of humanitarian goods through the air corridor, however, if any carrier abuses this, the reaction of the republic will be appropriate and the violator will respond in accordance with international law.
On October 3, the Georgian Security Council, in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, decided to temporarily suspend the issuance of permits for the transportation of military cargoes both to Armenia and Azerbaijan. Despite this, from time to time on social networks there is information about the transfer of military cargo by civilian aircraft through Georgia.
