ArmInfo. Attempts to politicize the trial in the case of Gagik Tsarukyan are unacceptable, Advisor to the Prosecutor General Gor Abrahamyan said on his Facebook page, responding to the concerns of MP from the Prosperous Armenia faction, Gagik Tsarukyan's press secretary, Iveta Tonoyan, about possibility of Tsarukian's arrest.
"After the announcement that the Prosperous Armenia, Motherland and ARF Dashnaktsutyun parties intend to hold a rally on October 8, the propaganda of the authorities announced that the head of the PAP would be arrested," Tonoyan wrote.
The MP, in particular, noted: "It's a pity that for all our criticism, all the counter-arguments of the authorities are so weak that in order to silence us, some resort to their favorite method - arrest.
To note, tomorrow at 11:00 a court session will be held under the chairmanship of Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, during which the petition of the investigator of the NSS to arrest leader of the Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan will be considered.
Despite the statements of Iveta Tonoyan, Gor Abrahamyan said that no new motion for the arrest of Tsarukyan had been submitted. "At tomorrow's court session, the petition that was rejected by the court of general jurisdiction will be discussed. As you remember, the prosecutor's office appealed the decision to the Court of Appeal, which, in turn, partially satisfied it. It was decided to cancel the decision of the first instance court and to send the case to the same court for a new trial.
The problem is that the RA Court of Cassation decided not to accept the complaints of the RA Prosecutor's Office against the aforementioned decision of the Court of Appeal, that is, the decision of the Court of Appeal entered into force, on the basis of which the court of first instance appointed a hearing. In this sense, publications about the predetermined outcome of the trial, which has not yet been held, are simply unacceptable, as are manipulative attempts to politicize the process, which is absolutely legal in the light of some political statements, " Abrahamyan wrote.
To note, Tsarukyan was charged with tax evasion on an especially large scale, as well as with bribery of voters and the appropriation of large land plots. In June this year, the parliament deprived Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity.
