ArmInfo. The election of new judges to the Constitutional Court only exacerbated the doubts in the society about the path chosen by the ruling majority in Armenia. An independent analyst Saro Saroyan expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.
On September 15, by secret ballot, the Armenian parliament elected three new judges of the Constitutional Court. 88 deputies of the Bloc "My Step", "Prosperous Armenia" and "Enlightened Armenia" did not participate in the voting.
"Considering that the elected judges at one time, under the wing of the Republican Party, committed lawlessness in the judiciary, the so-called. overcoming the constitutional crisis has given rise to a new problem. In particular, the question arose - whether the task of introducing new values in the country remains on the agenda of the authorities, or the ruling force has decided to keep the "values" of its predecessors "in force," he stressed.
The analyst explains such a decision by the ruling force, or rather its leader, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, by the presence of external factors that are insurmountable for the prime minister. It is the latter circumstance, according to his estimates, that prompts Pashinyan to go to behind-the-scenes agreements, and not only on the issue of the candidacy of new judges of the Constitutional Court. According to Saroyan's assessments, the new judges of the Constitutional Court are able to meet the expectations of both Pashinyan and other participants in the agreement regarding long-running trials involving the "former". This is the essence of a rather large-scale and therefore confusing compromise with the participation of many geopolitical actors, and not just Moscow, as it is commonly believed.
"Such a decision, of course, brings on the ruling party and Pashinyan personally significant public discontent. Nevertheless, the main thing for them today is solidarity with external forces formed on the basis of a compromise. The need for the latter is dictated by geopolitics: the processes in the South Caucasus, the Middle East, the July aggravation on the border and what followed in relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey. All these processes and challenges determine the need for Armenia to have good relations with the main partners, "the analyst concluded.
