ArmInfo. In the office of the "Civil Contract" party, MPs from the "My Step" faction are holding a meeting with the candidate for the position of a judge of the Constitutional Court, Vahram Avetisyan. The parliamentary correspondent of ArmInfo reports this from the scene.
As head of the faction, Lilit Makunts, stated earlier, the MPs intend to ask Avetisyan all their questions. Makunts noted that based on the results of the meeting, she will be able to express the faction's point of view regarding this candidacy.
To note, on July 23, the governments nominated Vahram Avetisyan, a judge of the Constitutional Court, for the position of candidate. Earlier, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan signed a law on amendments to the law "On the Constitutional Court", which was adopted on June 30. In accordance with them, the powers of all judges of the Constitutional Court are limited to 12 years. After the amendments were adopted, three judges who had worked for more than 12 years were dismissed: Alvina Gyulumyan, Hrant Nazaryan and Felix Tokhyan. Head of the court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, has become an ordinary judge. New judges will now be elected instead. One candidate is proposed by the Government, the second - by the President, the third - by the General Assembly of Judges.
It should be reminded that the relatives of the victims on March 1, 2008, twice sent letters to the MPsof the National Assembly, urging them to vote against the candidacy of Avetisyan as a judge of the Constitutional Court. Dissatisfaction with Vahram Avetisyan's candidacy is mainly due to his family ties. The fact is that Avetisyan's father served as head of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation in 2008-2016.
