In turn, the <Veto> initiative reports that another 15 citizens were detained to the police departments of Ararat. Malyan said police officers were waiting for members of the initiative near Khor Virap Monastery. He emphasized that rallies were prohibited in the country, not protests.
The <Veto> statement noted that these detentions were unlawful, and similar actions by the police were carried out on instructions from political authorities. <Such actions are aimed at restricting the rights of citizens to freedom of speech enshrined in the Constitution of Armenia. We urge journalists and human rights defenders to respond to unlawful events>, the statement emphasizes. Moreover, near the Ararat police building, police detained member of the Adequad initiative Arthur Danielyan and the chairman of the youth organization of the Republican Party of Armenia Hayk Mimidjanyan.
