ArmInfo. The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia published the amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia in the official gazette, which will come into force in a few hours. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced this on his Facebook page.
According to the amendments, the current chairman of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, will be dismissed, and the powers of the members of the Constitutional Court, Felix Tokhyan, Alvina Gyulumyan and Hrant Nazaryan, will cease from 00.01 local time.
Recall that on June 22, the National Assembly of Armenia in the second and final reading adopted the constitutional law on amending the Constitution of Armenia. 89 deputies voted "for" the adoption of the draft law, against 0. According to the proposed amendments, the powers of the judges of the Constitutional Court, who have been in office for more than 12 years, must be terminated. After the vacant posts of judges are taken, the election of a new head of the Constitutional Court will take place.
It should be noted that some judges of the Constitutional Court do not agree with their removal from office. In a statement circulated today, they called on executives "not to go beyond the powers established by the Constitution and laws, as well as beyond the framework of law and the rule of law". The statement was signed by Hrayr Tovmasyan and judges A. Gyulumyan, F. Tokhyan and G. Nazaryan.
