ArmInfo. I am sure that the key to solving problems with fake news is education and literacy. The MP from the "My Step" faction, economist Babken Tunyan stated this from the rostrum of the RA parliament.
Along with this, he emphasized the importance of protecting citizens from misinformation, whether it is intentional or not. Addressing the RA NA Committee on Education and Science, Tunyan noted that the latter should formulate specific tasks in this context, for which the government will provide possible support if there are not enough resources and means.
In particular, he emphasized that there are 2 ways to solve the problem with fake news: . Regarding the first method, the lawmaker noted that education is the cornerstone - a person should distinguish what he needs, for what purpose the information is published, and what they want to convince him of.
In this regard, according to Tunyan, the most effective is the formation of a media budget at the expense of subscribers, rather than advertising. he said.
At that, the lawmaker stated that today in Armenia the problems connected with fake news are more than serious. This problem has recently worsened and, according to Tunyan, has become one of the main challenges. , he said.
However, Tunyan drew attention to the fact that reliable information is never free. "With a large choice of media, citizens assume that they read information for free, but pay for it with their attention, which is what specific media need, and they get paid for it from other sources already," the economist said. Continuing what was said, he noted that in this case the option is considered acceptable if the source of financing is a business that does this in order to advertise its products and services. However, there are cases of funding from political forces. In this case, according to the lawmaker, people do not use the right to receive information, but rather are misinformed.
