ArmInfo. The Armed Forces of Armenia are the guarantor of the security of Armenian statehood. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on June 9, introducing the new Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Onik Gasparyan.
According to him, Onik Gasparyan is not a newcomer in the armed forces, he went through all the stages of military service, for a long period of time he held the post of first deputy chief of the general staff. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the former Chief of General Staff, General Lt. Artak Davtyan for the work done. As the head of government emphasized, a large-scale work has been done in the country's armed forces during the work of Artak Davtyan, numerous changes have occurred, and, of course, an extensive agenda has been formed that needs to be put into practice. Nikol Pashinyan noted that the armed forces of Armenia as a layer of society have fully formed, becoming one big family. But, like any state, they face internal and external challenges, and there is confidence that there is political will to solve all the problems.
To recall, yesterday Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree according to which Artak Davtyan was relieved of his post as chief of the general staff of the country's armed forces. On the proposal of the Prime Minister, Onik Gasparyan was appointed to this position.
It should be noted that on Saturday the wedding of the son of the Chief of the General Staff of the Republic of Armenia, Artak Davtyan, was held, which was celebrated with sufficient scope despite the ban of the commandant's office. A video from the wedding ceremony circulated by the media caused a wide public outcry. In this regard, yesterday Davtyan issued a statement in which he did not refute the information about the wedding ceremony, indicating that everyone has the right to privacy. "I urge some people, the media, not to invade my personal and family space and not to try to drag me into political games," Davtyan said, while expressing his willingness to be punished according to the law if he committed violations in a pandemic.
