ArmInfo.A return to total lockdown due to coronavirus is undesirable. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a live broadcast on Facebook.
The Prime Minister noted that today the main task is to provide all patients with coronavirus appropriate treatment. This means that the number of patients with COVID-19 must correspond to hospital capacities, otherwise mortality due to this disease will increase due to the fact that patients will not be able to receive the necessary medical care. If severe cases of coronavirus amount 5%, which is calculated for 10 thousand patients — 500 people, then with an increase in the number of infected people tenfold this figure can reach 5 thousand. As Pashinyan emphasized, the healthcare system of Armenia has never been able to provide treatment of such a high number of patients.
The Prime Minister noted that if it would be impossible to provide inpatient treatment for patients requiring coronavirus hospitalization, the country would be forced to return to a total lockdown. Meanwhile, Pashinyan noted that given the fact that coronavirus has spread around the world, this step will not solve the problem. In addition, the total lockdown has a negative social and economic impact. In this regard, the prime minister once again urged citizens to comply with anti-epidemiological measures, which is the best prevention of the spread of coronavirus. This applies to maintaining social distance, using personal protective equipment and refusing to organize and participate in public events. As was emphasized, the personal responsibility of each citizen is important in this process.
In total, 12364 cases of coronavirus were recordedin the republic, 3720 people recovered, 190 died. Currently, 8385 patients are receiving treatment.
