ArmInfo. The Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan called unfounded the statement of the independent MP Arman Babajanyan that the refusal to conduct vetting of the judges nullifies the goals of the velvet revolution. Badasyan made the corresponding publication on his Facebook page.
In his note, the Minister noted that Babajanyan made another irresponsible statement in connection with the vetting in Armenia. In particular, Badasyan said that it was the Ministry of Justice that presented the strategic program of judicial and legal reforms from 2019 to 2023, adopted by the government.
<During the live broadcast with the Prime Minister of Armenia, I never said that we do not intend to apply vetting in the judicial system. I just said that for its widespread application it is necessary to make the corresponding amendments to the Constitution. Without this, the application of such measures is impossible. Therefore, we are talking about the next unfounded statement>, the Minister of Justice emphasized.
He also noted that at one time no one and nothing could prevent the government from submitting bills "On Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property" to the National Assembly and on criminalizing the criminal subculture. It should be noted that last week, independent MP Arman Babajanyan criticized the Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan. The lawmaker said that during a live broadcast of the meeting with the head of government, Badasyan did everything possible to convince Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that it was impossible to apply vetting and transitional justice in the judicial system. According to Babajanyan, such an approach will nullify all the goals of the velvet revolution.
