ArmInfo.In 2019, 1,264 people were prosecuted for corruption- related cases under the jurisdiction of the RA preliminary investigation, which is 31.6% more than in 2018 (960 people). This is stated in the message of the Prosecutor General's office of Armenia.
According to the source, last year at the proceedings stage the criminal prosecution was terminated against 375 persons, which is 13.2% more than a year earlier. Of the 530 citizens prosecuted for corruption in 2019, were officials and civil servants, which exceeds the indicator for 2018 by 12.8%. Among them are two ex-presidents, three deputy ministers, one former general prosecutor, one former chief of police, one ex-head of the regional administration, 27 police officers, 10 officers of the SRC, 8 employees of the Investigative Committee, 3 officers of the National Security Service.
The most corrupt areas were the Armed Forces (164 persons involved in criminal cases), local self- government (113), education (96), social security (63), healthcare (36), as well as the management of state property, energy and the environment (61).
