ArmInfo. As soon as a referendum on constitutional amendments was scheduled, some people stated that the government was going to falsify the results of this referendum, but this is not so. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced this on March 10 in Meghri in the framework of the "Yes" campaign.
He noted that Armenia will never again have rigged elections. "I have said more than once that I'll cut off my hands, but I will never allow at least one vote to be falsified during the referendum. Moreover, I'll cut off the hand of someone who tries to carry out these falsifications. The power in Armenia belongs to the people and that's the point. This issue is not being discussed, "the prime minister said. Pashinyan said that the topic is also being discussed that the country's leadership wants to stay in power longer. "We do not set ourselves the task of staying in power for a long time. At that very moment, when the people of Armenia decide that it is time for me to leave my post, I will immediately fulfill their demand," the head of the Cabinet emphasized.
Touching upon the situation with the Constitutional Court, the prime minister said: "The Constitutional Court is the last remnant of the Kocharyan-Serzh regime in the country, and the people of Armenia will be freed from this remnant on April 5."
Pashinyan recalled that he repeatedly noted his intention not to interfere in the country's judicial system. "After that, some people decided that since the head of state does not want to control the judicial system, then they will do it. And they are trying to do this in the judicial system, but we will not allow this through a referendum. But the final decision is yours, "he said.
To recall, on February 9, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian scheduled a referendum on constitutional amendments on April 5 this year. Earlier on February 6, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted a decision on submitting draft amendments to the Constitution to the referendum. 88 MPs voted for this decision, against- 15. It is a question of introducing amendments to Article 213 of the Constitution, providing for the dissolution of the Constitutional Court. The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Suren Papikyan headed the "Yes" campaign, formed by the Civil Contract party. As for the "No" initiative group, its top ten included Ruben Melikyan, Gohar Meloyan, Arsen Babayan, Elinar Vardanyan, Tigran Atanesyan, Astghik Matevosyan, Artak Asatryan, Siranush Sahakyan, Anahit Sargsyan, Arsen Mkrtchyan.
