ArmInfo.The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia revealed another case of an attempt to smuggle and export narcotic drugs on an especially large scale.
As a result of interaction with the SNB and the aviation security service of "Armenia International Airports" CJSC, on February 15, 2020, a suspicious passenger of the Yerevan-Kiev flight, who is an Iranian citizen, was checked. In her luggage, 5 kg of opium was found, hidden in the factory packaging of chocolates, which she tried to smuggle through Ukraine to the UK. As a result of the operative-search measures and investigative actions, information was received that the indicated passenger, by Tehran- Yerevan flight, entered Armenia on February 12 of this year and, settling in one of the hotels in Yerevan, the same day from arriving in Armenia via Meghri's customs point received a consignment of narcotic drugs smuggled from Iran to Armenia.
A criminal case has been opened in the investigative department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia on the fact of an obvious crime under the relevant articles of the RA Criminal Code. A preliminary investigation is underway, measures are being taken to ascertain and prosecute other persons involved in the criminal scheme, to ascertain the addressees of financial flows generated from the sale of drugs.
