ArmInfo. On January 23, the Criminal Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the trial court on the recognition of the application of bail as a preventive measure against former executive director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Ara Vardanyan.
To recall, the National Security Service of Armenia detained Vardanyan in July 2018. The latter was charged with abuse of power, but was later released on bail. According to the National Security Service, Vardanyan admitted that he used the Fund's credit line of 25 million drams to bet at various online casinos. However, as representatives of the fund subsequently stated, Vardanyan returned the funds spent from the budget even before the intervention of law enforcement agencies.
On October 10 of last year, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan decided to change the preventive measure from bail for arrest in connection with new charges. On December 4, Vardanyan was released on bail of 10 million drams.
