ArmInfo. Armenia must compensate for the aggressive policies pursued by a number of countries in the region containment policy. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on December 13 at a meeting on the budget allocations of the Ministry of Defense in 2020.
According to the Prime minister, security is a multicomponent factor and carries both economic, political, and psychological, diplomatic components. "But the security forces of Armenia and Artsakh, first and foremost, are the armed forces, and in this context I consider important the enormous changes in the army over these 1.5 years," he said.
Contrary to some political speculations, as Pashinyan pointed out, an unprecedentedly large number of weapons have been acquired over the past few years. "We need armament not for war, but for peace, since Armenia must compensate for the aggressive policies pursued by a number of countries in the deterrence policy, and we are pursuing such a defense policy by developing the armed forces," Nikol Pashinyan noted. In addition, as the prime minister pointed out, serious steps are also being taken to improve the conditions of service and the social guarantees of servicemen.
