On November 21 in St. Petersburg, on the sidelines of the CIS Inter parliamentary Assembly, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Head of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko. This was reported by the press service of the parliament.
During the meeting, Matvienko noted with satisfaction that Armenian-Russian relations are actively developing, not only in a bilateral format, but also within the framework of the EAEU. She also pointed out the importance of cooperation in the educational field, including in the aspect of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Matvienko emphasized the importance of dialogue between the parties, as well as the absence of aggressive rhetoric. For his part, Mirzoyan pointed out that active development is taking place in the allied relations between Armenia and Russia, which is also facilitated by inter-parliamentary relations.
Speaking about the Karabakh conflict, the NA Speaker noted the position of the Prime Minister of Armenia, according to which the solution of the problem should be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan. At the same time, it was emphasized that the Azerbaijani side also made a similar statement.
The parties touched upon the cooperation of parliamentarians of the two countries. It was agreed that next year Matvienko will pay an official visit to Armenia.
