According to the press service of the President of Armenia, during the meeting, Armen Sarkissian welcomed the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Armenia, congratulating him on his appointment and wishing him success in implementing state programs. Speaking of Armenian-Georgian relations, the RA President noted that the history of friendship between the two nations dates back thousands of years. "But now we are at the beginning of the 21st century. A new era brings new challenges. But I believe that at the same time it is a great opportunity for our two states and peoples," he said. Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, conveyed warm greetings from the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili to Armen Sarkissian. The Prime Minister of Georgia, in particular, noted that it was a great honor for him to visit Armenia for the first time as Prime Minister and to be able to contribute to the deepening of centuries-old ties between the two peoples. "Our ancestors have strengthened our friendship for centuries, and now we need to think about it. We are here with the intention that our economic cooperation will affect the growth of the well-being of our peoples," the Prime Minister of Georgia said. Following the closed meeting of the delegations of the two countries, a separate meeting was held between the President of Armenia and the Prime Minister of Georgia. "We discussed some very important issues with Mr. Prime Minister. And my conclusion remains the same: the possibilities for our joint work are much wider," the president said, adding that together a lot can be achieved. "I want Mr. Prime Minister to be sure that the people of Armenia, the government of the Republic of Armenia, and the presidential apparatus will do everything possible to make these opportunities a reality."
In turn, the Prime Minister of Georgia said: "We discussed what our young people and citizens should do to be bold in global competitive world, to use opportunities and become more competitive and entrepreneurial. I am sure that our joint efforts will allow our citizens to solve this problem. For me, in practice, this means closer relationships in economics, politics, culture, education. " Stressing that relations between the two countries and the results of cooperation will serve to increasing the welfare of citizens of the two countries, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of practical measures. The parties exchanged views on the possibilities of implementing joint programs in the field of high technology, education and science, food security, as well as in the framework of presidential initiatives.
It should be noted that today, the Prime Minister of Georgia, accompanied by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, where he paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
