ArmInfo.Actions against the judicial system lower the standards of an educated and free society and throw us back into the Middle Ages. This opinion was expressed by the first Prime Minister of independent Armenia, now head of the Public Council, Vazgen Manukyan, who commented on his website the recent statement by the "Vernatun" public organization led by him regarding the initiative of the political forces to change the head of the Constitutional Court of Armenia.
<In general, when I try to evaluate the work of any government, I assess not only what has been done in the field of economic development, security, legislative reforms, but also I always evaluate whether this government has helped people become more free and educated society . If we are talking about Western values, then the independence of the judiciary is one of the greatest values that should be supported by both the authorities and citizens, "Manukyan noted.
He stressed that the judicial system, of course, needs to be reformed, but exclusively within the framework of the law. < If necessary, review the laws, amend the Constitution. We have a short history as an independent state, and over the years, many problems in the judicial system have gradually decreased, since it was impossible to do this right away. And what is happening today around the Constitutional Court is completely beyond the scope of the law. And today, the judicial system must be constantly reformed, but all changes must be made within the framework of the law, otherwise we will lose our foundations of the rule of law>, Manukyan said.
To recall, in a statement of "Vernatun" public organization on October 4, it was said that illegal attacks on the Constitutional Court, attacks on the judicial system, the use of double standards in investigative and judicial practice and selective "justice" lead to the establishment of monopolization of power. The trial in the case of "March 01" has passed into the political plane. "We think that political forces, including the authorities, public organizations and activists should make every effort to get out of this situation.
