ArmInfo.A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident at the "Ayeli" Press Club in the Police of Armenia. The adviser to the Prosecutor General of Armenia Gor Abrahamyan said this on his Facebook page.
Recall that on October 5, four young people threw eggs at the Ayeli Press Club. One of the young people taking in this participation, and introduced himself as David Hovhannisyan, said that he demands the closure of this media. According to him, the reason for the action was an article published on Hayeli.am, under the heading "Belated but powerful response to Aliyev Pashinyan."
"On the instructions of the prosecutor of Yerevan, a criminal case was opened in the central police department in connection with the incident at Ayeli Press Club on the grounds of the first part of the 164th article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia," Abrahamyan noted.
On the fact of the attack on the club's editorial office, the office of the Ombudsman of Armenia also made a statement, which emphasizes the inadmissibility of such actions. "Assault on a journalist or media in connection with professional activities jeopardize freedom of speech and pluralism of opinion. Immediate action must be taken on the incident with Hayeli.am to prevent the recurrence of any such incident, "the statement of the human rights defender's office said.
On the fact of what happened at the editorial office of the press club, several opposition political parties made condemning statements, which also emphasized the unacceptability of such manifestations in a democratic society.
Media editor-in-chief Angela Tovmasyan claims the incident is political persecution. She appealed to law enforcement agencies to give the necessary legal assessment of what happened.
