ArmInfo. Armenia in the near future plans to open an embassy in the capital of Ethiopia - Addis Ababa. The decision on this was made at a meeting of the RA government on September 19.
Presenting the draft decision, RA Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan emphasized that Ethiopia is one of the most important political centers of the African continent. The headquarters of the African Union (AU), uniting all the states of the continent, is located in the country's capital - Addis Ababa. Thus, the head of the foreign ministry continued, it will be possible to develop relations with the AU countries. Moreover, at present, Armenia has diplomatic representation in only one country on the continent - in Egypt. The opening of the embassy will provide an opportunity to develop relations not only at the bilateral level, but also in the format of multilateral cooperation. The Minister said that all the necessary calculations related to the opening of the embassy were carried out and expressed confidence that this project will be implemented in the very near future.
Recall that on August 27 at the opening of the annual congress of the heads of the central apparatus of the ministry and diplomatic missions and consular institutions of the republic, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan announced that Armenia would open an embassy in Ethiopia in 2019. According to him, the opening of the diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa will be an important step towards rapprochement with African countries. "The African continent is a new direction for the foreign policy of Armenia. And relations with African countries Armenia begins with Ethiopia, "the Minister noted, adding that for Armenia this representation will become a kind of gateway to the region. Yerevan considers the African continent as an important direction from the point of view of promoting the development agenda, the Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized.
