ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan denies rumors that the diplomatic corps of the republic is unable to arrange a meeting between the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the margins of the UN General Assembly in September 2019.
As the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry stated in an interview with reporters on August 22, a program for Pashinyan's visit to the United States is being prepared for today. Details of the agenda will be made public as soon as it is finalized, Zohrabyan noted.
When asked if the Pashinyan-Trump meeting is expected and how accurate is the information that the Armenian diplomatic corps is not able to organize a meeting between the head of the Armenian government and the senior leadership of the United States, the minister only answered: "They are mistaken."
According to him, there is currently quite active cooperation with the United States. "There were visits, there were contacts. Let's evaluate these visits, at what level were the contacts for this period. Regarding the meeting with Trump and Pompeo - we did not have meetings with them today, but this did not lower the level of our dialogue with the USA, in fact, he became even more active, " Mnatsakanyan said.
As the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry pointed out, it must be borne in mind that the United States has a specific management system with its own complex structure. "The meeting with Trump and Pompeo is always on our agenda - at necessary time, then they will meet," concluded Zohrab Mnatsakanyan.
To recall, the Pashinyan-Trump meeting was scheduled for September 2018 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, but did not take place due to the tight schedule of the leaders of the two countries. In September 2019, Nikol Pashinyan's visit to the United States was announced. For the time being, we only know that he meet with representatives of the Armenian community in Los Angeles.
