ArmInfo. Capital Mayor Hayk Marutyan has filed a lawsuit against former member of the Council of Elders Sona Aghekyan and is demanding compensation for damage to his honor and dignity.
Thus, according to the press service of the Judicial Department, a lawsuit by the mayor of Yerevan was presented on August 15, the case is being considered by judge Tatevik Stepanyan. Marutyan demands compensation for damage to his honor and dignity, as well as a refutation of earlier statements. To note, Sona Aghekyan, a former member of the Council of Elders, a member of the ''Alternative Municipality'' initiative, was active in protecting the interests of citizens under both the new and the old capital authorities. It was Aghekyan who was at the center of a major scandal at Yerevan City Hall under the former mayor Taron Markaryan. Then, she brought to the meeting of the Council of Elders jars of wastewater from the Yerevan administrative district of Nubarashen. Then, the actions of Aghekyan were positively regarded by society.
However, those same actions by Aghekyan under the new mayor caused a storm of indignation, many were outraged by the fact that the police did not necessarily react to the fact that Aghekyan brought sewage to the city hall. Subsequently, Aghekyan was brought to the police, and after drawing up the administrative protocol she was released. Moreover, Aghekyan at a press conference on August 9 claimed that corruption in the city hall reached unprecedented proportions.
