ArmInfo. The fire extinguishing operation at the Dzyunik Sarnaran cold storage warehouse is under the personal control of the Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia Feliks Tsolakyan, the press service of the Ministry of Emergencies of Armenia reports.
According to the source, 11 appliance crews of the Ministry of Emergency Situations work on the spot, and firefighters have been fighting fire for more than a day. The 4th and 5th floors of the warehouse are still in fire. In a conversation with reporters, the Minister explained why the fire still could not be put out or at least localized. According to Tsolakyan, the whole problem lies in the building itself.
"There are practically no windows in this building, in turn, it has very thick walls, assembled from light materials, which are covered with cement on top. Thus, the fire caught the walls themselves," he stressed.
Moreover, the Minister noted that the fire on the 3rd floor was already completely extinguished. Tsolakyan also drew the attention of journalists to the fact that the main problem is related to the fifth floor, where the temperature reaches 1000 degrees Celsius.
"At the moment, rescuers in suits that can withstand up to 800 degrees are periodically trying to get to the fifth floor. However, unfortunately, we have not really succeeded in this matter so far. If we can advance ten centimeters on the fifth floor, we will be able to localize the fire." the Minister of Emergencies stressed, noting that in extreme case, the fire can be put out from above by making a hole in the roof.
As for the causes of the fire, according to Tsolakyan, one should wait for the results of the examination, although he did not exclude the possibility of exposure by the human factor.
