ArmInfo. The document around which discussions are taking place is detrimental to the reputation of the Venice Commission. Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan said this on July 16 in response to a question from journalists about the negative position of the CoE Venice Commission on the initiative of the Armenian authorities regarding the vetting of judges.
The Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly admitted that she was not aware of what protocol was being discussed; at the same time she questioned the official character of this document. <I don't know what kind of document it is, what kind of protocol, during which meeting it was mentioned, whether it is a draft or not, who participated in these discussions. A document prepared under similar conditions, which is published and around which discussions are taking place, is detrimental to the reputation of the Venice Commission, "Nazaryan said, refusing other comments on this document. According to Nazaryan, the obligation to revitalize the judicial system is fully in place and this process will continue, noting that the vetting is a tool that checks the official's compliance with a particular position according to certain criteria.
"Now these criteria are being formed, legislative changes are being developed, which are being developed by the Ministry of Justice. In September, we will discuss and adopt these criteria in the National Assembly, and the verification process will be based on them. As we call it - a vetting or a test of integrity, in fact, it does not matter>, "concluded the NA Vice-Speaker.
