ArmInfo. For Armenia, Turkey is a security threat. The press service of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia told ArmInfo that Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said this during the 16th Batumi International Conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership in the context of the security problems of the Eastern Partnership countries.
"Over the past 27 years, Turkey has rejected the establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia and continues its blockade policy, which is accompanied by a denial of the truth: this is a security threat to us," said the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
In the context of the Eastern Partnership Initiative to Promote Democracy, Mnatsakanyan noted that the EaP is not just a region of the European neighborhood, but rather a part of Europe based on common values.
Mnatsakanyan reminded that the events in Armenia in April and May 2018 demonstrated the strength and ability of Armenian structures to respond to such changes and raise the country to a higher level of democracy.
At the same time, Mnatsakanyan expressed the hope that common European values will not be subordinated to new partners, new ones will appear opportunities to find ways to diversify, and the EU will firmly support them in its principled position.
Speaking about the role of civil society, the Armenian minister stressed that it is impossible to ignore their role, since they are an integral part of public debate and decision-making.
