ArmInfo. The revolution and the change of power in Armenia, the presidential elections in Ukraine and the current political crisis in Moldova today are nothing but links in one chain. Professor of Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi Georgi Derluguian expressed such opinion to ArmInfo.
"The reason for the change of power in these countries is the decline in living standards to the level of Central America or Africa. Meanwhile, citizens of Armenia, Moldova or Ukraine consider themselves Europeans, and are not going to put up with such a life and such regimes. It's pretty easy to start rebellions "Power is weak everywhere. It is difficult to correct the situation, develop the economy, industry, science, at least to the level of the late USSR. Today we have all this on the example of Armenia ," the sociologist emphasized.
According to Derluguian, as a rule, all revolutions have a common fabric and pass through a phase of secondary radicalization. In this light, he considers it important that Nikol Pashinyan not repeat the mistakes of his predecessors - revolutionaries in other countries: fighting against "enemies of the people", blaming the predecessors of guilt for failure, etc. In this light, the sociologist believes that the transit of power in Armenia is still not completed and where the situation will turn further is still unknown.
Derluguian sees, as one of the scenarios for the further development of the situation in Armenia, supported by the lack of investment, the stagnation of the economy. The second, more optimistic, but difficult for the government, scenario is to encourage non-standard-innovative thinking, stimulating the personal efforts of citizens. In this light, he is convinced that Armenians need to act on their own, and not wait for investors from outside, especially in a situation where it is very difficult to attract money into the economy from the outside.
"It is not clear why a potential investor should come to a small, semi-blocked, not rich country with a migrant population? The situation dictates completely different decisions; it is necessary to act by its own efforts, together on the basis of non-standard thinking. Armenians need to finally start thinking the way that they have not thought of over the past 30 years. Refusal of such a way of thinking contains the only way out of the situation, " Derluguian concluded.
