ArmInfo. The Council of the National Assembly today rejected the request of the Enlightened Armenia Party to convene an extraordinary meeting. On May 22, Edmond Marukyan, head of the "Enlightened Armenia" party, told reporters.
"An extraordinary meeting will not be. Bad traditions are being formed, the collection of signatures was carried out, the text of the statement was, however, we cannot convene a meeting," he noted. The deputy stated that during the meeting of the Council, deputies from the My Step faction voiced the opinion that the majority of the people's representatives supported the action to block the judges on that day, therefore, their position is already clear and washed away the meeting. Following the call of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to block the entrances and exits to the courts, the Enlightened Armenia Party initiated the extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly to discuss the current situation in the country. To this end, she organized a collection of signatures. We managed to collect 36 signatures. Deputies from the Prosperous Armenia Party also joined the collection of signatures. They came up with a draft statement, which, in particular, noted: "Taking part 3 of Article 88 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia as the basis, using its constitutional authority to exercise parliamentary control, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia calls upon faithful to the Constitution and the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, respect international obligations enshrined in ratified international documents. " The document also calls to ensure the protection of human rights, democracy, the rule of law.
