ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan will leave for Bishkek today, where he will take part in a meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Spokeswoman of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan stated this on May 21 during a briefing in Yerevan.
At the same time, she stressed that the agenda of the meeting will include a wide range of issues, including the issue of the organization's secretary general, as well as the regulation of the regulatory framework related to the early suspension of powers of the incumbent CSTO secretary general. Referring to publications in the media regarding the fact that from January 1, 2020, the representative of Belarus Stanislav Zas will head the structure, Naghdalyan expressed conviction that this is only an assumption, since no decision has been taken yet. "We theoretically know that, according to the rotation, from January 1, 2020, the representative of Belarus will take the post of CSTO Secretary General, but nothing can be said for sure, since no decisions have been made yet and statutory regulations have not been developed regarding the early suspension of the powers of the current Secretary General of the organization. These very issues will be discussed by the heads of the CSTO MFA in Bishkek, "the representative of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said, adding that in the choice of the Secretary General, Yerevan will give preference to the person who will properly represent the interests of all the member countries of the CSTO.
At the same time, she did not give an assessment of the personality of Belarus's candidate Stanislav Zas, assuring that Yerevan had not yet studied his biography.
