The head of the department of archeology of Ancient Armenia of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the NAS RA, the head of the expedition of old Artashat Mkrtich Zardaryan said this at a press conference, speaking about the intensive expansion of the cemetery near the monuments in Ashtarak that have special protected territory status.
"The cemetery in the monument zone expands in 1970, which hinders expeditions," said the archaeologist, stressing that, despite existing laws prohibiting the expansion of burial in this area, this trend does not stop. <We are constantly expressing our concern in this regard. Last year, the Ministry of Culture explained that closing the cemetery was a difficult task for them, "he said.
Zardaryan spotted a certain community in the issues of protection of historical and cultural heritage from the representatives of all the governments of Armenia.
It is noteworthy that the situation did not change even after the villagers were given a new place for the cemetery. Similarly, the situation is, according to the scientist, and the monastery of Khor Virap. In this cemetery, not only the residents of the village, but also Yerevan are buried.
