Starting from very early morning thousands of people walk up to the "Tsitsernakaberd" memorial to the victims of Genocide to commemorate the victims of the crimes against humanity that occurred 104 years ago in the Ottoman Empire.
In addition to the residents of Armenia and the Diaspora Armenians, as well as the country's authorities, foreign diplomats accredited in the country also visit the memorial.
It should be noted that the Armenian Genocide is recognized and condemned by 31 countries of the world, 49 out of 50 US states, influential international organizations - the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the UN subcommittee on the prevention of discrimination and protection of minorities, the World Council of Churches. Three European countries criminalized the denial of the Genocide - Cyprus, Slovakia, Switzerland.
Pope Francis called the massacre of Armenian Christians in the Ottoman Empire "the first genocide of the twentieth century".
Meanwhile, Turkey still categorically refuses to recognize the Armenian Genocide. It should be noted that as a result of the planned policy of the government of the Young Turks in the Ottoman Empire, in the beginning of the 20th century, the Armenian Genocide and mass forced deportation of the Armenian population were carried out. 1.5 million Armenians became victims of the genocidal policy of the Young Turks, hundreds of thousands were forcibly deported and sought refuge in foreign countries.
