ArmInfo. The victory of Vladimir Zelensky in the presidential elections in Ukraine is the continuation of the Ukrainian revolution in April 2019 in a peaceful way. Such an opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by President of the Kiev Center for European and Transatlantic Studies Aleksey Kolomiets.
After processing by the Central Election Commission of Ukraine 90.25% of electronic protocols, Volodymyr Zelensky is ahead of his rival Petro Poroshenko by almost 50%. 73.18% of voters voted in the second round of the presidential elections on April 21 for the representative of the "Servant of the People" party, and 24.49%- for the current head of state. Thus, over 12.2 million voters voted for Zelensky, over 4 million for Poroshenko. The CEC will sum up the final election results no later than May 1. The inauguration of the elected president will take place no later than May 31. "I assess the victory of Zelensky as another catastrophic defeat of Putin's Russia in Ukraine. Poroshenko is none other than one of the closest associates, henchmen and students of the Russian president. In this light, the Kremlin and Lubyanka are in fact confused and alarmed. However, this period will pass very quickly. And the harsh power policy towards Ukraine will continue, apparently, having acquired even tougher forms and methods ", he stressed.
Kolomiets assesses the new president of Ukraine as absolutely inexperienced in matters of geopolitics and human geo-strategy. According to his estimates, Zelensky does not even realize that in recent years Ukraine has become a "buffer" or "threshold" country through which the modern sanitary zone passes from the north to the south.
It is absolutely incomprehensible, according to his estimates, who stands next to Zelensky at the moment, who is responsible for international politics and defense, because the publicly named personalities, in his opinion, are the forerunners of the strategic catastrophe of his presidency. According to the analyst, Zelensky and his entourage do not even have hints of understanding the philosophy and dynamics of changes in the modern world order, as well as the place and the role of Ukraine in this order. The Kremlin has such an understanding. Kolomiets is convinced of the need to protect Zelensky from contacts with Angela Merkel, the founder of the anti-Ukrainian coalition led by herself, Putin and Poroshenko, whenever possible. He noted with regret that Zelensky, a few weeks before the second round, announced that one of his first visits would be to Berlin. The consequences, if such a visit takes place, are already clear.
Kolomiets is convinced of the need to prevent Zelensky as much as possible from contacts with Angela Merkel, the founder of the anti-Ukrainian coalition led by herself, Putin and Poroshenko. He noted with regret that Zelensky, a few weeks before the second round, announced that one of his first visits would be paid to Berlin. The consequences, if such a visit takes place, are already clear. In this light, the only world politician who can help both Ukraine and Zelensky, according to Ukrainian analyst estimates, is US President Donald Trump. And the fact that Trump was one of the first to call Zelensky on the night after the victory, according to his estimates, is inspiring. However, it is still unknown who will firmly tell the elected president of Ukraine the need to establish the only strategic relationship with the US president. "At the same time, Zelensky's any intentions cannot be realized without solving the basic condition - holding the court over Poroshenko. Zelensky must understand that his real electoral base is 30%. The remaining 43% is a mixture of protest against Poroshenko, hatred for Poroshenko, despair and hope. Accordingly, Vladimir Zelensky has very little time - approximately until the end of the year. This is extremely aggravated by the factor of the incredible importance of the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in October of this year, the result of which may predetermine all the presidency of Volodymyr Zelensky. The Kremlin is well aware of this, "concluded Kolomiets.
