On April 15, Armenian Ambassador to Iraq Hrachya Poladyan received Chairman of the National Religious Council of Iraq Sheikh Yusif Al-Nasri, members of the Standing Committee on Coexistence and Communal Peace under the Government of Iraq, as well as a delegation of Iraqi clergy.During the meeting, Muslim spiritual leaders presented works aimed at strengthening cooperation between religious and national minorities of Iraq, emphasizing in this regard the invaluable role of the Armenian community of Iraq and the Iraqi diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, especially in the military and subsequent periods.
Referring to the Armenian Genocide issue, Sheikh Yousef Al-Nasri, Chairman of the National Religious Council of Iraq, strongly condemning the inhuman crime committed in the Ottoman Empire, stressed that the current Turkish authorities should apologize to the Armenian people for their actions in the name of their own generations.At the end of the meeting, the spiritual leaders conveyed their greetings and goodw ishes to the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, stressing state care of the Iraqi authorities regarding religious and national minorities, highlighting the need for development relations aimed at the interreligious solidarity of the two peoples in the multi-ethnic and multi-faith population of Iraq.
