ArmInfo.A candle lighting ceremony was held in Washington in front of the White House demanding that the US President Donald Trump recognizes the Armenian Genocide. This, according to the participants of the ceremony, such a step is necessary to restore historical justice and prevent such a tragedy in the future.
This time, the participants of the ceremony expressed special gratitude to those US states that a century ago helped the Armenian people who suffered from the Genocide.
"Alabama, California, Mississippi, New York and Virginia, we will forever be grateful for the salvation of innocent people," said one participant in the rally, Nanar Keurkunian, Voice of America reports. It should be noted that the US Presidents annually on April 24 come up with messages to the Armenian people in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide. The only president who used the term "genocide" in 1981 in his message, speaking about the events of the beginning of the 20th century in OttomanTurkey, was Ronald Reagan. Barack Obama used the slogan in Armenian <Mets Yeghern>. His example was followed by Donald Trump, also using the expression <Mets Yeghern>. It should be noted that 49 out of 50 states of the United States recognized the Armenian Genocide. However, Congress has not yet recognized it.
