ArmInfo. In the process of resolving the Artsakh conflict, a new phase has begun. The director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, turkologist, academician Ruben Safrastyan said this on March 18 at a press conference.
He noted that after the meeting of the Security Councils of Armenia and Artsakh, which was held in Stepanakert, it became obvious that Yerevan had begun to rethink approaches to resolving the Karabakh issue. "I am sure that in the near future we will witness the new strategy and new approaches of Armenia in the negotiation process on the Artsakh settlement. Certainly, changing the strategy will require a lot of effort from the new government of Armenia, and this is certainly a long process, especially given the fact that Azerbaijan constantly imitates pre-negotiations, "the expert stressed.
The expert also referred to the latest statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, stressing that this statement was only a statement of the facts of what had happened so far. Safrastyan also noted that since the co-chairs of the Minsk Group are intermediaries, the final format and the settlement issue will depend on the position of the parties.
"Since the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group are intermediaries, their statement is not connected with the desire to put pressure on one of the parties," the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences said.
