ArmInfo.In recent years, Ameriabank has raised over $ 100 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for energy efficiency projects. Head of Corporate Lending Department at Ameriabank Vahan Kajayan said to journalists on the fields of the event, dedicated to awarding the best partners of EBRD on green financing.
According to him, the raised funds were directed to the development of greenhouses in all regions of Armenia, where farmers are engaged in growing flowers, tomatoes, strawberries, etc. The total number of greenhouses, as noted by V. Kajayan, reaches about 10 units covering an area of 50 hectares.
Answering the question of ArmInfo, he noted that in the total amount of funds attracted by Ameriabank from international organizations, the share of EBRD is 10-15%. "If we talk about new programs with Eurobank, we recently signed an agreement to attract $ 12.5 million, which will be directed to energy efficiency projects in 2019. A little earlier, we raised another $ 7.5 million, which will be used to finance SMEs," he said. . In addition to the above, V. Kajayan noted that Ameriabank intends to continue cooperation with the EBRD and other international structures in order to implement innovative programs, particularly in the field of renewable energy, as well as SMEs.
He stated that today not only Armenia, but the whole world is making the transition to green energy. "With the development of technology, the cost of investing in green energy is decreasing, which makes it more interesting, especially for such a small country like Armenia. After all, it is not only about saving energy resources, but also promoting environmental protection. Having a small territory, it is undesirable to use traditional energy sources ", V. Kajayan said.
To note, on February 19 this year in Yerevan, the EBRD held a ceremony to award the best partners in green financing. Ameriabank was recognized by EBRD as the "Best Partner in Green Finance for Greenhouses".
