ArmInfo.According to the balance of payments of Armenia, in the Q3 2018, compared to the same period of 2017, foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 50%, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote about this on Facebook.
"Thus, in the third quarter of 2018, the net inflow of FDI (net liabilities) amounted to $ 75.5 million compared to $ 50.9 million in 2017," said Pashinyan. The head of government noted that the same dynamics was observed during 2017-2018 by quarters; in 2017: in Q1 - $ 68 million, in Q2 - $ 29.1 million, in the Q3- $ 50.9 million, in Q4- $ 101.8 million. By 2018, the data are as follows: in Q1 - $ 94.2 million, in Q2 - $ 8.9 million, in Q3 - $ 75.7 million. "By the way, this is the same figure, on decrease of which in Q3 our opponents talk all the time," said Pashinyan, adding that the data for Q4 2018 (balance of payments) has not yet been published.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, the total foreign investment in the real sector of the Armenian economy grew by 4.3% in the third quarter of 2018, reaching $ 548.3 million, while a year earlier the quarterly increase was only 0.5%. In their structure, the volume of FDI increased in the third quarter of this year- by 64.5%, amounting to $ 124.3 million, against modest growth - by 6.4% in the same quarter of 2017. In year over year terms (Q3 2018 versus Q3 2017), FDI declined by 12.9%, while total foreign investment grew by 7.3%. In January-September 2018 compared with the same period of 2017, the volume of total foreign investment in the real sector of the Armenian economy grew by 10.8% to $ 1.7 billion. The share of FDI in total foreign investment for the first 9 months of 2018 was 22.6% (against 30, 7% a year earlier) or $ 385.4 million, which is lower than the figure for the same period of 2017 by 18.4%.
According to statistical data, Russia holds the lead in terms of total investments and FDI. The second position was held by Germany. Cyprus still closes TOP-3. By World Bank forecasts updated in October of 2018 the share of net foreign investment in Armenia's GDP in 2018 will be 3%, with an increase in 2019- 2020 to 3.5-3.9%, against an actual 2% in 2017. For 2017, the real sector of the Armenian economy received foreign investments in the total amount of $ 2.3 billion, of which $ 677 million in the form of FDI.
