ArmInfo. Former Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan does not plead guilty in connection with the March 1, 2008 case and considers the allegations to be unfounded, Ohanyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
Yesterday Seyran Ohanyan, who during the events of March 1-2, 2008, served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense and in April was appointed as the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, was charged in the case of events 1 March 2008. The former minister recalls that the country's highest legal act is the Constitution, and any feeble effort against it is retribution on a citizen, a state, and a criminal offense. "The accusations, which say nothing from a legal point of view in the March 1 case, supervised trials, gross violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms are a pretext to the basic law of Armenia," he underlines, adding that actions against him are clear evidence of this phenomenon. .
According to Ohanyan, the well-known wiretapping of the heads of National Security Service and the Special Investigative Service proves specific instructions of the Director of the National Security Service, an agreement between the heads of the two services. Seyran Ohanyan also stresses the illegality of the restriction of his rights to freedom of movement, the denial of his rights to the inviolability of his private life, honor and good name.
The former head of the Armed Forces wonders: "Do those who violate the Constitution have the right to administer justice in respect of colonel generals, the president and other persons who have made a significant contribution to the defense and development of Armenia and Artsakh? Leading the disclosure of the tragic events of March 1 to a dead end, and the logic of the charges suggests that new "creative approaches" are not excluded.
"I have the impression that there are underground figures who, owning various methods of manipulation, use the tragedy of March 1 for their far-reaching goals. I, as a person standing at the roots of the creation of our statehood, experienced cruelty and trial of a war as combat general, for decades have led the armed forces of Armenia and Artsakh, together with the three presidents of Armenia and Artsakh, army officers, soldiers, liberty warriors and the whole people ensured the inviolability of borders, I consider the situation disturbing and unclear which leads to uncertainty- such iniquities are a threat to the values and achievements of the modern history of our people and undermine the foundations of the state, call into question efforts aimed at strengthening and developing the country. As during the period of indictment, I now insist that it is groundless and I do not admit guilt. I would not want our judicial and legal system to be guided and engaged in anti-constitutional activities. Justice is not carried out by order or under the influence of the street. Justice is exercised through the independent and objective work of the best specialists of the judicial and legal system, " Seyran Ohanyan said.
According to the media, in the framework of the criminal case on the events of March 1, 2008, Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan was charged under Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (overthrow of the constitutional order). At present, in the framework of the "March 1 case", charges have been brought against the second president of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, Mikael Harutyunyan, Yuri Khachaturov, Armen Gevorgyan, Samvel Mayrapetyan and Vahagn Harutyunyan.
