ArmInfo. There is no economic policy in Armenia, Armenian 2nd President Robert Kocharyan, accused of overthrowing the constitutional order, stated in an interview with "Yerkir Media" TV channel on August 16.
According to him, he welcomes the steps of the new government to eradicate corruption. But only combating corruption, as Robert Kocharyan believes, one can not build a sound economic policy. At the same time, he doubts that the anti-corruption struggle is so efficient. "How many cases related to Sashik's (the third president SerzhSargsyan's brother)50% sharein businesses were disclosed and proven for these 3 months, in my opinion, not one. It will take another 3 months, a year, I do not know if there will be such revelations, or not, "he said.
At the same time, he is sure that no investor will come to Armenia and will not invest in the Armenian economy until he is convinced that the country has sound economic agenda. As he pointed out, they changed personnel, not focusing on professionalism and work experience of officials. "This is a classic revolutionary approach," Kocharyan said, recalling that during the years of his tenure, the country's GDP grew 5-fold.
At the same time, as he pointed out, during his presidency - from 1998-2008, corruption did not reach such a scale, and the country's economy was not so monopolized. "20 companies were engaged in import of bananas, 16-17 companies in gasoline import, in contrast to today's highly monopolized market," - he concluded.
