ArmInfo.The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia conducted a study on the practice of detention in 2017, as a result of which standards should be established that will provide individual bases for detention, goals and protection of human rights. Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan, presenting in the National Assembly a report on the results of 2017, announced this on May 15.
According to him, from the middle of the year in the country were enacted guidelines, which were sent to all bodies of preliminary investigation, as a result of which were achieved some indicators. "In 2017, applications filed by the court declined by 15-17%. An important part of the study was the question of taking the necessary actions to identify the grounds for detention prior to the petition, and we have an increase in the satisfaction of applications for detention." There is also an increase in the use of collateral, which indicates that the participation of prosecutors has increased significantly when considering these applications. "We had many cases when the prosecutor participated in the discussion of the petition, and he agreed with the application of the pledge."
In 2017, 20 285 crimes were registered in the Republic of Armenia, thus, the crime rate increased by 8.1%.
Davtyan noted that, in relation to other countries, the situation in Armenia is generally good. "In fact, the analysis of the dynamics show that there was a high degree of latent crime, as a result of improved registration and records, there was a rise in crime," the Prosecutor General said. In particular, the growth of crime was recorded in such areas as corruption, as well as crimes related to drug trafficking.
In Armenia there are 681 crimes per 100 thousand inhabitants. As for other countries of the former USSR, for example Ukraine the number of criminals is 1238, in Moldova 1003, in Belarus - 909, 1402 in Russia, and 1754 in Kazakhstan.
At the same time, in napej the country on 16.7% the number of especially grave, and on 11.4% the number of grave crimes was reduced. In general, for 10 years the number of murders has decreased by 28.5% and the number of attempts of murders has decreased by 25.8%.
