ArmInfo. The Minister of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia, Suren Karayan, believes that the protest actions in Armenia will have a negative impact on tourism performance. Suren Karayan said on April 19 at a briefing for journalists.
According to Karayan, as a result of many efforts of the government, in the result of 2017 Armenia became a plus - the economy of the country grew by 7.5%, and the tourism sector by about 18%. The economic indicators of Armenia for the first two months of 2018 were also encouraging, and according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Economic Development, the republic will finish the first quarter with a high index. "We have achieved the fact that many international authoritative organizations have called Armenia a safe country for tourists, but what happens on the street in recent days will have a negative impact on the economy and on the indicators of the tourism industry," the minister said.
In particular, as Suren Karayan noted, many countries have already issued warnings to their citizens, urging them to refrain from traveling to Armenia, since they may endanger their life and health. Already about a dozen tour operators and several hotels reported on the refusals of tourists to visit Armenia.
As for the activities of the new government, then, as Suren Karayan assured, the new Cabinet will continue all the planned programs, without losing pace. "Our goal is to develop the economy of the country at a higher rate than the world economy," said the head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Investment.
