ArmInfo. The newly appointed Armenian Ambassador to Romania Sergey Minasyan presented his credentials to the President of Romania Klaus Johannis.
As the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told ArmInfo, the Romanian president expressed hope that the ambassador will contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations by his activities. In turn, Minasyan assured that he would do his best to give a new impetus to bilateral relations. The two sides agreed that it is necessary to deepen even further the economic relations, which are not yet at the proper level. At the meeting, the Armenian diplomat touched upon the signing of the agreement on comprehensive and expanded partnership between Armenia and the EU on November 24, 2017, stating that it creates a favorable environment in terms of further deepening and strengthening of bilateral relations.
Touching upon the forthcoming summit of Francophonie in Yerevan in October this year, Minasyan expressed the conviction that participation in the event of the President of Romania can give a serious impetus to the development and deepening of the Armenian-Romanian relations both in bilateral and multilateral formats. The Ambassador also touched upon the Karabakh conflict and stressed the importance of its settlement through negotiations and within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, noting that in the last period Romania's position on this issue was balanced, and the Armenian side expects its continuation further, in line with the single position reflected in the preamble of the Armenia-EU agreement.
He also expressed gratitude to the President of Romania for the policy of the country on the protection of the rights of religious and national minorities, noting that Bucharest became the second homeland for Armenians many centuries ago, and during the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
